Diwali is called as ‘Festival of Lights’ and is celebrated by Hindus. This festival is observed generally in the month of October or November . There are a lot of preparations on this day. People start cleaning their homes fifteen to twenty days prior from Diwali like white washing, painting , dusting . Everyone is happy on this day and prays Goddess Lakshmi and God Ganesha . It is assumed that Goddess Lakshmi visits each and every house on that day and gives blessings to families of healthy and prosperous life a head . Every home is decorated with flowers and lights . People wear new clothes and distributes gifts and sweets to neighbours , relatives and friends .

Etymology of Diwali

Diwali —also known as Deepawali comes from the Sanskrit word dipavali meaning ‘row or series of lights’. The term is derived from the Sanskrit words dipa meaning  ‘lamp, light, lantern, candle and avali meaning ‘a row, range, continuous line, series’ .

Why do we celebrate Diwali ?

Diwali is a Hindu festival and we celebrate Diwali because Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravan a demon in north .

In south, we celebrate Diwali because of victory of Lord Krishna over demon Narakasura . It is celebrated in total five days , starts from Dhanteras and ends at Bhai dooj.

They should plan their visit fifteen to twenty days prior or after Diwali to save time .

  1. People for their enjoyment burn crackers on Diwali but there should be a basic understanding that the smoke it exhibits leads to health issues to people and harms environment .
  2. It harms human peace of mind as there is a lot of noise from crackers.
  3. It can also lead to fire in parks or near by forests or any near residential area .
  4. It can lead to rise of air pollution as it contains toxic gases and chemical compounds .
  5. It also leads to rise in temperature which causes global warming .
  6. People above 60 years can suffer from heart attacks due to loud sounds .

Due to above mentioned reason a person should not burst crackers on Diwali .
